GALESBURG — Galesburg High School senior Connor Aten isn’t scared to admit he feels a bit of pressure when he’s on a baseball diamond.
However, it pushes Aten.
“It keeps me grinding in the weight room and it keeps me grinding in practice, which is a good thing,” Aten said Friday evening, while enjoying a fruit smoothie at Innkeeper’s.
And the 5-foot-11 right handed pitcher has achieved one of his lifelong dreams due in part to his work ethic.
After verbally committing in late January, Aten signed and faxed a letter of intent to Bradley University in Peoria last Wednesday. He had a official ceremony in the GHS library a day later.
Other NCAA Division I schools Aten considered include the University of Illinois, Valparaiso, Michigan State, Northwestern and Eastern Illinois.
“It was a little nerve racking going into (the ceremony) but I’m glad it’s over,” Aten said. “I’m really looking forward to attending Bradley and playing baseball. It should be a fun ride.”
