Trot Nixon selected to N.C. Sports Hall of Fame

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Former New Hanover High School star Trot Nixon has been selected as a member of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame 2020 class.

Nixon was a two-sport star for the Wildcats and was named the N.C. player of the year in baseball and football. He also was named Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year as a senior.

Nixon, who was selected by the Boston Red Sox with the seventh overall pick of the 1993 Major League Baseball draft, helped the team capture the 2004 World Series title.

He finished his major league career with 137 home runs and 555 RBIs.

He and the rest of the 2020 class will be enshrined into the Sports Hall of Fame on May 1 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
