Meet Tails, the darling Dutch shepherd, CultureMap’s pet of the week


Name: Tails. Usually I list famous people with the same name as that week’s Pet of the week, but I got nothing for Tails. Except the saying, “Can’t make heads or tails of it.” I’ll use it in a sentence: Why anybody would name a dog Tails, I can’t make heads or tails of it … so feel free to change my name. I’ll get used to it. Not a problem.  

Birthdate: November 19, 2018. I’ll celebrate my second birthday soon after Election Day. So we’ll either celebrate or commiserate together. 

Ethnicity: I’m a Dutch shepherd. Now we have a name you’ve never heard before, and a breed you’ve never heard of. I’m what they call an “extra beautiful” lady on the home shopping channels, meaning I’m a bit of a large gal: 73 pounds.


I’m an easy going pooch who gets along with children and other pups. I behave well at dog parks and know a few commands. I’m housebroken and spayed, so no assembly required.


Here’s the deal. My former owner kept me outside all day, and I want to be an inside dog. Inside dogs are happier and bond better with owner and family. I’ve never understood people who adopt dogs and then keep them outside. Staff here at Citizens for Animal Protection says…
