A successful coach, a three-sport star, a Super Bowl champion and a distinguished sports official will join a dirt-track racing legend and baseball pitcher as the 2020 class of inductees into the Fayetteville Sports Club Hall of Fame, announced Tuesday morning.
Longtime official Neil Buie, South View and UNC Pembroke athlete Melanie Grooms-Garrett, former Fayetteville State athlete and E.E. Smith basketball coach Roy McNeill and Terry Sanford and Elon football star Brent Sexton were elected as current candidates, while dirt-track racer Jimmy Edwards Jr., and baseball player Bob Spicer Sr. were tabbed for the Legends Class. The Legends category was introduced last year to honor candidates who had previously been considered but not inducted.
All six will be formally inducted on Feb. 26, during ceremonies at the Highland Country Club. Tickets to the event, which begins with a reception at 6 p.m., are $50 per person and can be purchased by contacting Ashley Petroski at 910-323-9195.
