CSU Baseball Second in Preseason PBC Poll


With first pitch days away, the Columbus State University baseball team was selected second in the Peach Belt Conference preseason poll.

The Cougars earned 97 points in the poll, including taylling a first-place vote. North Georgia was atop of eight polls receiving 117 points to grab the number one ranking. Young Harris (92), Georgia College (87), and USC Aiken (87) rounded out the top-five.

Columbus State won 30 or more games for the 12th time in the past 14 seasons in 2019 posting a 31-20 record for 23rd year head coach Greg Appleton. CSU returns four players who started 40 or more games last year, including All-PBC selections Robert Brooks and Dane Bullock. Brooks hit .302 with 10 home runs and a team-best 24 extra-base hits. Bullock hit a team-high 11 round-trippers in 2019 on his way to posting a .910 OPS.

Also returning in 2020 are Jalen Latta and Devin Dudal, both all-conference performances a season ago. Latta, a left-hander starter, went 4-5 in a team-high 89.2 innings of work. The Columbus native tallied 82 strikeouts while finishing the year with a 3.51 ERA. Dudal had one of the best seasons by any Cougar reliever in history…
