San Francisco GM threw first pitch in Marlins history with Erie Sailors

John Lynch is hoping for his first Super Bowl championship as an NFL executive on Sunday as Lynch is currently the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

Lynch, a hard-hitting safety in his playing days, earned a Super Bowl ring as a player in 2003 by helping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeat the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Lynch has a unique connection to Erie as a former pitcher for the Erie Sailors. Lynch was drafted by the Florida Marlins in 1992 and threw the first pitch in the organization’s history as a member of the Sailors. His Sailors jersey is currently on display in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

In 1993, Lynch was drafted by the Buccaneers and went on to a successful NFL career after making seven starts on the mound for Erie in 1992. He went 0-3 with a 2.15 ERA.
