For the second time in its seven-year history, the Western Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame will induct a Greenfield product.
Former Greenfield High School standout Peter Bergeron is a member of the Class of 2020, and he’ll officially be inducted at the ceremony set to be held Friday at the Hadley Farms Meeting House in Hadley. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the program set to begin at 6:30. The Valley Blue Sox will host the banquet.
“To be recognized locally is great,” Bergeron said of the Hall of Fame selection. “I like the area, came back to raise my family here. It’s a special place so it’s really great to have my career recognize where it all began.
“Any time I came back around when I was playing, hopefully it helped promote the game of baseball in western Mass.,” he added. “And hopefully I had a little hand in that during my time … get people thinking about the sport and involved in it.”
Bergeron, who graduated high school in 1996, played parts of five MLB seasons for the Montreal Expos from 1999-2004. The outfielder finished his career with eight home runs and 56 RBIs. His best season came in 2000, when he hit .245 as the starting center fielder and…
