Auburn baseball picked 3rd in division by SEC coaches

Following a run to the College World Series a season ago and with seven position players returning along with veterans on the pitching staff, the Auburn Tigers were predicted to finish third in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference by the coaches, the league announced on Thursday.

Auburn pitchers Tanner Burns and Cody Greenhill along with infielder Rankin Woley were all selected Second-Team All-SEC by the coaches with the Tigers receiving a pair of first place votes and one vote to be the overall SEC Champion.

With Burns picking up his second consecutive preseason All-SEC recognition, Auburn’s three honorees are the most the Tigers have had in the award’s sixth year of existence. Auburn also joins Arkansas, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt as one of four teams with three or more preseason all-conference honorees.

Also garnering preseason All-America recognition from Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game, Burns is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he posted a 4-4 record with a 2.82 ERA and went on to become the 25th All-American in program history.
