The Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal has been the talk of the MLB offseason. New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez was asked about the scheme at spring training today.
Sanchez was part of the 2017 Yankee team that was one win away from the World Series. New York lost the ALCS in seven games to the Astros, who eventually went on to win the World Series. We now know Houston was apparently stealing signs electronically during that playoff run.
Today, Sanchez spoke about the video of Houston star Jose Altuve, who refused to let teammates rip off his jersey after hitting the series-clinching homer against the Yankees in last year’s ALCS. Altuve said he did so because he was being modest.
