SAN ANTONIO – Eight months after being named the fifth head coach in the history of UTSA baseball, Pat Hallmark opens the 2020 campaign with the first of a three-game weekend series at Roadrunner Field Friday.
The Roadrunners host Quinnipiac Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday’s first pitch is at 4 p.m., while Saturday is at 2 p.m. and the finale gets underway at 10 a.m. Sunday.
UTSA finished 28-30, while the Bobcats went 30-29 in 2019, including a 17-7 mark in the MAAC, sweeping regular season and tournament titles.
OPENING DAY: The Roadrunners are 11-17 all-time on opening day and have lost their last three. They are 2-3 in the last five openers and 6-4 in the last 10. The program’s longest winning streak on opening day is five from 2012-2016 with the longest dry spell was eight seasons from 2001-2008.
SERIES NOTES: This is the second series between these two teams all-time, with the Bobcats winning three of the four games. Quinnipiac won the opener 5-4 Feb. 17, 2017. UTSA evened the series at one win apiece with a 12-1 triumph in the first game of a doubleheader the following day. The Bobcats responded with an 8-7 win in the night cap and a 12-10 victory Feb….
