Cactus League Luncheon Celebrates Baseball And Helps Illustrate The Economic Impact Of Spring Training


If there was ever any doubt why Florida and Arizona communities compete vigorously against one another to host major league clubs for spring training, the annual Cactus League Luncheon in Phoenix clearly answered the question.

The February 19, 2020 Cactus League Luncheon ushered in another new baseball season. Celebrating baseball, it was a time to remind all who would listen about the economic, social and civic roles played by Major League Baseball in Florida and Arizona communities every spring.

Spring training in both states provides a seasonal windfall of revenue. There is no doubt, spring training gets the cash registers humming.

In a study conducted by Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business, figures released at the luncheon indicated the 2018 edition of the Cactus League generated a whopping $644M in economic impact and $373M in Gross Domestic Product.
