Teams warm up for baseball season

Record teams have hit the diamonds in practice and scrimmages over the last few weeks, gearing up for the 2020 baseball season. Here’s a look at how each team is shaping up.

Triton Hawks

The Hawks posted an 11-10 overall record last year and finished 6-4 in the Tri-County 6 Conference, leaving them in a tie for second place with Western Harnett. They also earned a spot in the state 3A playoffs, losing in the first round to Southeast Guilford. Triton begins the season on Tuesday when South Johnston comes to town. The Hawks will be bringing back six seniors on this year’s roster, including pitcher Ethan Hedgepeth and outfielder Grayson Bradham. They will be led by first-year head coach Jacob Willis.

Western Harnett Eagles

On the other side of the tie with Triton last year, Western finished 18-8 overall in 2019. The Eagles were also a state playoff team last year, defeating Clayton 3-1 in the first round before losing to Jacksonville 4-1 in the second.
