Urban Chestnut toasts what would have been Stan Musial’s 100th birthday with #6 Classic American Lager


With baseball season right around the corner, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is teaming up with the family of the late Cardinals baseball legend Stan Musial to roll out a new beer that celebrates Musial’s legacy.

The brew, named “#6 Classic American Lager,” will honor what would have been Stan The Man’s 100th birthday. Urban Chestnut worked with the Musial family to create the beer style, name, and label design. The “#6” refers to Musial’s number that he wore until he retired from baseball in 1963.

“Together with the Musial family, we decided to brew an American lager because the style—like Stan—has become synonymous with baseball in St. Louis,” Urban Chestnut head of sales Jon Shine said in a statement. “The recipe we chose—dating back to before Prohibition—has resulted in something we believe will be as universally loved and enjoyed as the man it honors.”

The beer will be available on tap starting March 16 at Busch Stadium and nearby bars and restaurants, as well as in four-packs of 16-ounce cans at local grocery stores and beer retailers in the St. Louis area. It will continue to be available throughout baseball season.
