More female athletes are pursuing baseball

More than two dozen girls, ages 13-18, participated in the workout organized by Major League Baseball. Some of the girls will be selected for the first-ever Girls Baseball Elite Development Invitational, a one-week program geared toward providing elite training and instruction. “Women have played baseball since the game began, but with the exception of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the World War II-era league immortalized by the movie “A League of Their Own,” that participation is not well-known, said Kat Williams, a Marshall University professor who specializes in the history of women’s sports.
