Former Kansas City Royals owner and longtime Boca Raton resident Avron Fogelman donated his vast sports memorabilia collection to FAU.
BOCA RATON – A pair of sweat-stained uniform pants once worn by baseball legend Babe Ruth sits inside a glass case at the recently opened Avron B. Fogelman Sports Memorabilia Museum at Florida Atlantic University.
Nearby is Joe DiMaggio’s 1936 rookie baseball uniform, the 1969 Ryder Cup Trophy, football cleats worn by Hall-of-Famer Jim Thorpe, and more than 600 baseballs signed by sports legends, entertainers, politicians and historical figures.
The items are among the 1,200 pieces of sports memorabilia on display at the 3,500-square-foot museum, which sits inside the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence at FAU’s Boca Raton campus.
Fogelman, 80, a former Kansas City Royals owner and longtime Boca Raton resident, donated all the items from his vast sports memorabilia collection to the university last year.
